Zorbing
The zorbing ball tumbled into existence in the mid-1990’s in New Zealand, thanks to Andrew Akers and Dwane van der Sluis, hitting the extreme sport scene in 1998. Adventure West have now joined up with Andrew and David Akers to bring this adrenaline ride of a lifetime to Westport House.
We have worked closely with the original inventors of this crazy sport in designing our zorbing track and site, as they are also supplying us with the highest quality zorbing balls (OGOs) – the WEGO (harnessed) and H20G0 (hydro).
At Adventure West you can choose from two fun-filled OGO rides:
Hydro Zorbing: the tamer of the two rides, can be best described as an invigorating mixture of a waterslide and rollercoaster ride. This wet and wild experience involves one, two or three riders (depending on total weight) entering the OGO at the top of the hill, and we add in 20-25 litres of warm water. Then we secure the door closed and launch the OGO downhill. No dizziness, just good clean fun!
Harness Zorbing: the more extreme ride using OGO’s brand new style, suspended seat harnesses. These harnesses have 32 points of attachment to the ball to ensure that the rider is safely held and the harness has 6 attachment points around the body as well as hands and feet holds. One or two riders are securely harnessed inside the OGO before being sent rolling head over heels downhill to watch the grass and sky go spinning past.

FAQs
FAQs
Which ride is faster and more extreme?
Both experiences are very different but the harness is more extreme as you are going head over heels and are travelling at a faster speed.
Are there age, height or weight restrictions for Zorbing?
Minimum age limit of 8 years on both harness and hydro. Harness zorbing – must be 137cm (4ft 6ins) high and maximum combined weight for double harness is 180kg (28 stone). Hydro zorbing – combined weight for multiple riders must not exceed 250kg (40 stone). Parents or a guardian over 18 must countersign a waiver form for anyone 16 years or under.
What do I need to wear when zorbing?
Harness zorbing – you can wear everyday clothing as long as your shoulders are covered, you also need to wear socks, so it’s a good idea to bring a spare pair. Hydro zorbing – we recommend shorts and t-shirt and you’ll definitely need a towel and a change of clothes for after. Towels, shorts and t-shirts can be hired from our reception office.
Are there changing rooms available?
Yes – we have male and female changing rooms – with secure locker available for clothes and valuables.
Do the rides keep going in all weather conditions?
Zorbing is more affected by wind speed and direction. Therefore, for Health & Safety reasons, we may be required to cancel all zorbing operations if winds speeds are deemed to be too high.
Why do you sometimes cancel the harness zorbing and not the hydro?
In harness zorbing, two people are harnessed facing each other with the weight distribution centred in the middle, with downhill winds exceeding 15mph, harness zorbing is cancelled, as the balls travel faster. For hydro zorbing, the weight distribution is totally different. You are based in the bottom with the extra weight of water acting as an anchor thus more controllable with downhill winds.
What happens if my ride is cancelled due to bad weather?
You can rebook for another day in the season.
Do you have parking?
Yes.
